In Minnesota, World Cup interest runs highest among immigrants, and Black and Latino residents
Immigrants are four times as likely as the U.S. born to be following the World Cup, our Minnesota statewide probability survey finds.
With the 2026 World Cup underway across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, it seems much of the world is tuned in — even as most Minnesotans are tuned out. Just 14% say they are following the tournament at least somewhat closely, and 63% are not following it at all, according to a Minnesota Community Survey conducted from May 6 to June 16, 2026.
However, interest runs far higher among immigrants, and Black and Latino Minnesotans.
The snapshot
Minnesotans born outside the U.S. are following the World Cup at four times the rate of those born here: 46% say they are following at least somewhat closely, compared with 11% of U.S.-born residents.
