Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of lumaris.com, The Briefing newsletter, and the free member account that comes with subscribing. By using the site or subscribing, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Lumaris Research is the trade name of Lumaris LLC, a District of Columbia limited liability company. "We," "us," and "Lumaris" mean Lumaris LLC.

These terms do not cover survey respondents who take part in Lumaris studies, and they do not cover client projects. Respondents receive a separate notice at the time of the survey. Client work, including the client portal at portal.lumaris.com, is governed by the agreement for that project.

Using the site

You may use the site for lawful purposes. You agree not to:

  • Interfere with the site, attack it, or try to get around access controls.
  • Use automated tools in a way that overloads the site, gets around access controls, or copies the site in bulk. Ordinary browsing, search engines, feed readers, and collecting the material you are free to reuse under the next section are all fine.
  • Misrepresent who you are, or use another person's account.
  • Use the site to send spam or unsolicited commercial messages.

We may block or limit access to the site at our discretion. We may remove comments that break these rules.

Our content and how you may use it

The text, charts, and data we publish on this site belong to Lumaris. Some images, client logos, and embedded tools belong to other people or organizations.

Anyone may reuse the findings we publish, on this site or in The Briefing. Quote them, share them, reproduce our charts, and use the data we publish in your own work. This permission has three conditions:

  • Credit "Lumaris Research" as the source.
  • Link to the page you took it from where you can.
  • Do not present our findings as your own, or change them in a way that alters what they show.

This permission covers our own work only. It does not cover client logos, images, or embedded tools that belong to others. If we change these terms later, this permission still applies to copies already made under it. This permission does not include the Lumaris name or logo, except to give the credit above, and it does not cover the design of this site.

If you are not sure whether a use is covered, email us at info@lumaris.com.

If you send us something, such as a message through the site, a comment, or a reply to The Briefing, we may use it to respond to you and to run and improve the site, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not claim ownership of it.

The Briefing and member accounts

The Briefing is free to subscribe to. You must be 13 or older to subscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any issue.

Subscribing creates a free member account. Sign-in is by a link we email you, so keep your email account secure, and tell us at info@lumaris.com if you think someone else has used your account. We may close the account of anyone who breaks these terms.

About the data we publish

We publish survey findings in good faith and describe our methods with each release. Survey estimates carry sampling error and other sources of uncertainty. We report a margin of error where the survey design supports one.

Our content is general information. It is not legal, financial, medical, or professional advice, and it is not a recommendation to take any particular action. Decisions you make based on it are yours.

We try to keep the site accurate and available, but we do not promise that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, and we may change or remove content at any time.

The site links to other websites and embeds tools run by other companies, including the booking widget and the service that displays our charts. We do not control those companies and are not responsible for their sites or tools. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them or when they load on our pages. See our Privacy Policy for who those companies are.

The client portal at portal.lumaris.com is run for us by Assembly and is covered by your project agreement.

Limits on our liability

The site is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, Lumaris disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, and is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or its content. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for any claim related to the site is limited to one hundred US dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the courts in the District of Columbia, and you agree to their jurisdiction.

If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.

Changes

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the Last Updated date above. For material changes, we will post a notice at the top of this page and mention it in the next issue of The Briefing. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
