Vacationing Minnesotans look out of state for summer travel — but the North Shore still calls

Four in ten Minnesotans planned a vacation, and another quarter hadn't decided. Planning to travel tracks closely with income and education.

Nearly two-thirds of Minnesotans could be traveling this summer, with 40% saying they planned to travel for vacation, according to Lumaris Research's latest Minnesota Community Survey, conducted May 6 to June 16, 2026, with a representative sample of over 1,000 adults. One in three Minnesotans said they did not plan to travel this summer.

Among those who planned to travel, nearly three-quarters said they would visit another state, while 2 in 5 said they would vacation within Minnesota, and 1 in 5 said they would travel outside the country. (Respondents could select more than one destination.)
