2026 is another interesting year in Minnesota politics. The year started with the state in the international spotlight due to Operation Metro Surge and the impact of Covid-era fraud scandals continue to roil the political landscape.

Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. Tina Smith have decided not to run for reelection. The midterm elections will decide not only those two open seats but the balance of power in the state legislature and U.S. Congress.

Favorability ratings offer a baseline for the races ahead and can provide clues on the political headwinds candidates may face this fall. Here is where the state’s political figures stand with Minnesotans, and how those ratings have changed across waves of our survey.
